Functioning scheme of GR protein

This scheme was created for an oral presentation by an EPFL researcher at the GDR ImaBio « Probes for Super-Resolution Imaging » themed day, held on June 8, 2026, at Sorbonne University in Paris.
It illustrates the mechanism of the GR, which, in the presence of glucocorticoids, translocates from the cellular cytoplasm to the nucleus. The glucocorticoid-GR complex then binds to GREs (Glucocorticoid Response Elements) on DNA, triggering the transcription of target genes into mRNA, which is subsequently translated by ribosomes to produce new proteins.
